Year 11
Our
exam
board is Edexcel. The science
syllabus is called 360 Additonal Science for set 1 and 360 Science
for sets 2 and 3. Students
use Active Book. As well as a paper text book, you get to take
home a
CD ROM. It's got all that an ordinary text book has, but much
more besides...
If you're in set 1, you did your first Science GCSE in year 10
(!) and Additional Science, another whole GCSE, in year 11.
If you're in set 2 or 3, you will do one Science GCSE over two years.
Year 11 set 1 will study 12 new topics this year:
- Inside
Living Cells
- Divide
and Develop
- Energy
Flow
- Interdependence
- Synthesis
- In Your
Element
- Chemical
Structures
- How
Fast, How Furious
- As Fast
as You Can
- Roller
Coasters and Relativity
- Putting
Radiation to Use
- Power
of the Atom
Multiple Choice topic tests are done in March and June.
They account for 30% of your grade.
Practical skills are assessed by your teacher in class and account for
10% of your grade.
Assessment activities, at least one Biology, one Chemistry and one
Physics, the best of each contributes 10%.
Three written papers, one in Biology, one in Chemistry and one in
Physics, in June 2008 make up the final 30% of the mark.
For flash cards to help you revise on-line, see the Revision page.
Here's
BBC's Bitesize
site - it really is good for year 10 stuff, but there's no Additional
Science revision help yet!
